Green Bay Packers News: Injury Updates on Josh Jacobs, Brandon Cisse Before Preseason Finale

The Green Bay Packers starters won’t suit up for the team’s preseason finale on Friday night against the Arizona Cardinals. While that gives cornerback Brandon Cisse and running back Josh Jacobs more time to recover from their injuries before Week 1, they might not need it.

Speaking to reporters on Monday ahead of one of the final days in Packers training camp, head coach Matt LaFleur announced that Jacobs would be on the practice field this week after missing time with a groin injury he suffered on Aug. 6.

As noted by ESPN‘s Rob Demovsky, Jacobs was out on the practice field Tuesday afternoon and received reps with the first-team offense. The Pro Bowl running back will do “limited” team work this week and is fully expected to play in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, barring a suspension.

Cisse, the 52nd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, suffered a knee injury in last Friday’s preseason game versus the Denver Broncos. The rookie cornerback has been in the mix for a starting spot, competing with Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine.

LaFleur told reporters Tuesday that Cisse is “good to go” and he was out there on the field with his teammates during drills. While it’s unclear if the team will have him suit up for Wednesday’s scrimmage versus the Cardinals, he’s in no danger of missing the regular-season opener.

That puts Jacobs, Cisse, Valentine, Tucker Kraft, Devonte Wyatt, Aaron Banks, Javon Bullard and Zach Bako-Bewele all on track to play in Week 1.

Of note, per Matt LaFleur, wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant is in the NFL’s concussion protocol. A standout on special teams, he is fighting for a spot on the Packers’ 53-man roster. Green Bay long snapper Matt Orzech, currently on the physically unable to perform list with a calf injury, is getting closer to a return but might not be back on the practice field this week. Those two injuries could influence whether Orzech and Sturdivant make the roster, with Cal Adomitis and Will Sheppard challenging them for roster spots.
