Former Tennessee Titans star Vince Young had an intriguing take on current quarterback Cam Ward, comparing him to Chicago Bears star Caleb Williams ahead of the 2026 NFL season.
Young played six years in the NFL from 2006 to 2011, spending five of them with the Titans. He had a strong start to his career, winning Rookie of the Year and earning two Pro Bowl selections.
Young took part in an interview with Ratings, discussing multiple topics about his career and current stars in the NFL and college football. One of those topics featured Ward, which saw the former quarterback compare Ward to Williams, who underwent similar struggles as a rookie.
“That young man is doing everything he’s supposed to do right now. I’m just happy they got some people around him. I really feel like he went through the situation Caleb (Williams) went through in Chicago. He didn’t have anybody to throw the ball to, and he was just running for his life. I really feel like the Titans organization has done that. Put some good receivers around him, good running backs, better offensive line. Now he gets to be more comfortable in the offense that he’s in. That’s always tough to do as well when you come into a situation and then your offensive coordinator leaves, and all that type of stuff,” Young said.
“And then you gotta learn the whole playbook over again. I really feel like that’s good for him moving forward, and then he’s winning over the team. The guys speak really highly of him, the organization as well, and even the city, Nashville. That’s all a plus. When you have that, now you can just go focus on being a quarterback. He has all the intangibles, he has the arm strength, he has it all to be successful. Now you got to just bring it all together with his teammates and get that chemistry and go on this little run because he definitely is a winner.”

Cam Ward hopes for the best of results going into Year 2 of his NFL career with the Titans. Vince Young, as a former Titans quarterback himself, wishes the same as well.
Ward showed flashes of what he can bring to the table for Tennessee despite clear weaknesses on the team. He went 3-14 throughout the entire season, completing 323 passes for 3,169 yards and 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also racked up 39 rushes for 159 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. The quarterback even led the league in sacks absorbed with 55 and fumbles lost with seven.
The Titans will seek to improve upon their record of 3–14 from the past two seasons. They also intend to end their four-year drought of both a playoff appearance and an AFC South title.
Tennessee sees its 2026 campaign begin at home, hosting the New York Jets. That matchup will commence on Sept. 13 as kickoff takes place at 1 p.m. ET.
