LOS ANGELES — The San Antonio Spurs surprised everyone last season when they took major steps towards championship contention and came just three games away from winning the 2026 NBA Championship. Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and Co. ultimately fell short, but the group is eyeing another deep playoff run and hoping to learn from their mistakes.
Castle had an incredible sophomore season for the Spurs, averaging 16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field.
He took his game to another level in the playoffs, averaging 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 0.9 steals per game in 23 appearances while shooting 46 percent from the field.
Stephon Castle was in attendance for NBA 2K27's Community Day in Los Angeles. It was there that he spoke with ClutchPoints about a number of topics. Given NBA 2K's addition of Eras to MyCareer, we asked him about which era he would like to play in and why.
“Probably like the 90s era,” Castle told ClutchPoints. “I just think the game is so different now. So being able to see what it would have been like to see myself in those type of games, against those type of play styles, I think it would be cool to look at.”
Castle did a [round of media](https://The Sixers got a four 90+ overall plus players this year, similar to the Warriors back in 2017.) at NBA 2k Community Day, joining Oklahoma City Thunder star Chet Holmgren, Philadelphia 76ers star Jaylen Brown, and Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton.
Castle spoke with ClutchPoints, along with a small contingent of creators, about NBA 2K and his cover athlete teammate, Victor Wembanyama.

Tomer Azarly: Steph, real quick. Wemby became the first San Antonio Spurs player to become a cover athlete. What kind of honor is that? What does it say about him?
Stephon Castle: I mean, I feel like it speaks for itself. It speaks on the season he had, the type of player he is, the trajectory that he's on. I mean, the run that we just went on, without him, there's no way he would have got there. So I think it was well-deserved. And I don't think it'll be his last, if I'm being honest.
Tomer Azarly: I think he's also the first player to have teammates on the cover with him.
Stephon Castle: Really? That's nice. That's nice.
Reporter: He has a pretty special off-season workout regimen, where he's working out with monks or whatever. What do you want to see him do next?
Stephon Castle: I don't know, man. Vic is random. I mean, we'll never know what's going on. We'll log in on Instagram one time and he's somewhere random. So I mean, I don't know what's his story. I mean, I can't really tell. But I just know it's going to be beneficial for him.

Reporter: You going to join him?
Stephon Castle: I don't know if I'll join him. But I'm going to support him from a distance, though.
Tomer Azarly: 2K announced that you can now set your MyCareer in different eras. So if you had to take yourself back to a different era of NBA basketball, which one would it be and why?
Stephon Castle: Probably like the 90s era. Probably like the 90s era.
Tomer Azarly: What about the 90s era do you like so much?
Stephon Castle: I just think the game is so different now. So being able to see what it would have been like to see myself in those type of games, against those type of play styles, I think it would be cool to look at.
Reporter: Have you seen your rating for this year's game? And also, are you content with it? And also, if you are content, do you feel there's an era you can prove to have? Because they rate your ratings throughout the season. Is there an era you can have it range?
Stephon Castle: Yeah, I see my ratings. I like my overall. I think 87 for year three is pretty solid. I mean, they fixed my signature moves. I could see that my sigs last year was terrible. But I could dribble a little bit now. I mean, yeah, I feel there's a couple ratings that I wish I could improve on. Probably the obvious ones, like my vertical, driving dunk. I thought my speed was a little low. But that's probably just me. I don't know.

Reporter: So what is your first or favorite basketball video game memory, like your first time playing a basketball video game?
Stephon Castle: I don't know my exact first time playing. I think I really like 2K14. Even though they didn't really have it online yet, I feel like it was brand new, kind of. So I didn't really play online then. But I think just having vivid memories of me playing that with my brother. And I was old enough to actually be somewhat good at the game now. So that's probably one of my favorite ones.
Reporter: Is it surreal seeing yourself in a video game? Or did you think, I'm going to be in that game one day?
Stephon Castle: Yeah. I mean, obviously growing up, I mean, making it to the NBA was obviously a goal of mine. But obviously being in 2K was definitely a thing that you think of as a kid. So for the last two— well, three years now, I've been able to be in the game. So it's definitely a blessing.
Tomer Azarly: If you had to pick one player, and they announced co-op my career. So if you had to pick one player to co-op with, the whole career with, who would it be? All time?
Stephon Castle: Probably KD. Kevin Durant?
Tomer Azarly: Why KD?

Reporter: Did you have a favorite hooper or a favorite player to play with in 2K14? Or any of the other 2Ks that you played? 2K14?
Stephon Castle: I thought the Spurs were really cheesy. I don't know what made me use them back then. Because, I mean, it's not like they had crazy just star athleticism, stuff like that. But, I mean, they were pretty good back then. I think the Thunder team was good before they gave up KD. And obviously the Heat were probably off limits when you play with somebody.
Tomer Azarly: The Sixers got a four 90+ overall plus players this year, similar to the Warriors back in 2017. Is it unfair if someone picks the Sixers in 2K? Do they have to switch it up?
Stephon Castle: I don't know. I'll be playing my friends and they'll be telling me I can't get the Spurs. They said we're cheating.
Tomer Azarly: How is that cheating?
