San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York reportedly filed for divorce from his wife months before he was arrested on suspicion of engaging in prostitution in Ohio over the weekend.
York, 46, was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio on Sunday and eventually pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors earlier today. The suspicion of engaging in prostitution charge was amended to disorderly conduct, and he also pleaded no contest to possession of criminal tools.
York is going through a divorce
According to Noah Furtado of the San Francisco Chronicle, York filed for divorce from his wife Danielle back on May 11. The couple have been married for over 15 years and have two children.
York cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the filing. The matter is not yet resolved, says the California Post.
Embarrassing details emerge
York, who has been the 49ers’ primary owner since 2024 and its CEO since 2008, was arrested at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home community after responding to an ad on a prostitution website that had been posted by a member of the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
Court documents claim York agreed to have sex with a woman in exchange for $140. He was arrested at the meeting location, where authorities found him in possession of a cell phone used to arrange the tryst.
York was sentence to two days in Columbiana County Jail, to be served concurrently, with credit for one day served. He was also ordered to pay $1,150 in fines.
York’s cell phone, which had been confiscated by authorities, was returned to him, but he had to surrender $160 that was seized to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
In a statement, the NFL said the matter “will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy,” while the 49ers said because this is “a legal matter, which has been resolved,” they will not be commenting further.
