Portland Trail Blazers guard Shaedon Sharpe has sustained an injury and is set to spend significant time away from basketball.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Sharpe sustained a torn meniscus and will reportedly miss around six months.

This puts his possible return around or even after the All-Star break during the upcoming NBA season.

Sharpe's increased role with the team

Sharpe missed a significant part of last season after having a stress reaction in his left fibula.

Therefore, Sharpe played only 50 games. Despite a shortened season the guard performed well, averaging 20.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals in 29.4 minutes of action.

His production helped Portland secure a play-in spot, which ultimately resulted in a playoff matchup with the San Antonio Spurs. While Sharpe played against the Spurs, he provided limited minutes and performed poorly compared to his production in the regular season, mostly due to having just returned from injury.

While Sharpe has been a big part of Portland's success last season, the Trail Blazers have many options at the guard position. Jrue Holiday and Scoot Henderson remain from last season, while Damian Lillard is set to return after rehabbing from injury with Ja Morant, who was traded to Portland this summer.
