Seahawks Called on to Make Drastic Move With Struggling QB Jalen Milroe

The Seattle Seahawks added quarterback Jalen Milroe in the third round last year knowing he was a project behind center. One analyst, though, has seen enough of the experiment.

Fansided’s 12th Man Rising’s Lee Vowell argued Monday the Seahawks should cut Milroe after his “preseason Week 2 dud.”

“Milroe threw two interceptions, and both were awful,” wrote Vowell. “While Milroe has elite speed and a strong arm, his fundamentals are unsound, and he appears incapable of fixing them.”

Vowell continued: “Jalen Milroe cannot be trusted, and he is taking up a roster spot that might need to go to a defensive back as the secondary is suddenly struggling with injuries.”

Milroe finished Sunday’s Week 2 exhibition game going 6-for-11 with 52 passing yards. He also ran for 16 yards on a single carry, but Milroe turned the ball over twice with two picks.

QB Jalen Milroe Struggling for Seahawks

Fansided’s 12th Man Rising’s Lee Vowell argued the Seattle Seahawks should part ways with second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe.

Week 2 of the preseason wasn’t the first time Milroe had a bad outing. In the 2026 preseason opener, he completed 5 of 8 passes but for only 36 yards. Milroe also took three sacks in the contest.

Opponents have sacked Milroe five times this preseason.

Last preseason as a rookie, he completed 56.4% of his passes while averaging 6.5 yards per attempt. He also had one touchdown with zero interceptions but six sacks in three games.

Regardless of what athleticism Milroe brings as a runner, he hasn’t been a good enough passer to be a quality backup quarterback. With him entering his second season, it’s a legitimate question whether he ever will be.

Still, most pundits will consider giving up on Milroe already too big of an overreaction. Pundits argued that the former Alabama quarterback was going to need time to develop. Clearly, he needs more repetitions and opportunities.

Could Seattle’s Injuries at Safety Impact QB Depth Chart?

Quarterback Jalen Milroe has struggled for a second straight preseason for the Seattle Seahawks.

If the Seahawks had to go into the regular season with Milroe as their backup quarterback, there would be a lot more urgency to replace him. But with injuries piling up in the secondary for Seattle, the question this week is whether the team can afford to keep a third signal-caller.

The Seahawks lost second-round rookie Bud Clark to a broken ankle in Week 2 of the preseason. Clark will miss multiple months.

During Sunday night’s game, ESPN’s Brady Henderson also reported fellow safety Rodney Thomas II underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his hand.

In all likelihood, Thomas and Clark will be on injured reserve to begin the regular season. Neither might come off IR for a long time.

The question, though, is will the Seahawks need to carry more safeties than originally expected to make up for those losses?

If the answer is yes, the Seahawks might not be able to afford a third roster spot behind center.

In all likelihood, Milroe is safe. He also has one more preseason game to prove he should be safe.

But Vowell’s proposal of moving on from the second-year quarterback might be on the table given what else is happening with the Seahawks roster.
