Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom [says](https://justthenews.com/nation/culture/enes-freedom-says-chicago-sky-guard-made-crude-remark-he-was-ejection) Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud made a crude remark at him before he was removed from an arena Sunday during the WNBA game.
Freedom said that he was holding his hands up in celebration after Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham "shot a three," when Cloud started screaming that Cunningham wasn't going to have sex with him.
Freedom was wearing a T-shirt that declared the definition of a woman as being an adult human female, and he said he believes that contributed to Cloud's reaction.
Freedom and another former NBA player, Royce White, have both declared that they are identifying as women for the purpose of being able to play in the WNBA. The league has been publicly supportive of transgender athletes, though no one in the league at this time claims to be a transgender woman. This is considered a test of whether the league will stand behind its public embrace of inclusiveness, or if it is just virtue signaling and a political statement. Time will tell.
The league's collective bargaining agreement signed with the players' association in March 2026 states that "only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA" though it never defines "woman." The agreement makes no reference to "transgender" or "gender identity."
