BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) — Alex Caruso returned the Boys & Girls Club of the Brazos Valley Monday afternoon, the same organization where he played summer league basketball as a middle school aged kid before winning two NBA titles and helping lead Texas A&M to the Sweet 16.
Caruso presented the Boys & Girls Club with a $25,000 check and hosted a basketball camp for club members.
“I think on my drive-in today, I just started smiling a little bit because I know the energy that kids bring with these type of events because I went to camps as a kid,” Caruso said. “I was around adults that were pouring into me and other guys that were playing basketball or just in the community. And it goes such a long way. You know, a little bit of time really does brighten their day and maybe give them a glimpse into a passion or something that they might not have known they loved. And it’s just, it’s fulfilling to be able to come back and do that.”

Caruso said he reaching the NBA seemed impossible when he was the campers’ age, but he hopes his example teaches them to dream big.
“I think that’s another thing with these type of events is, you know, not being the guy on TV with the headband that the kids see and getting up close and personal and being able to talk to them and share my passion for basketball with them and just my passion for life and wanting to be great at everything I do and ambitious,” Caruso said. “And hopefully that opens their eyes to possibilities that they can go achieve their dreams.”
Caruso is a 2012 graduate of A&M Consolidated High School. He played for the Texas A&M men’s basketball team from 2012 to 2016 and is heading into his 11th year as a professional player.
He and the Oklahoma City Thunder won 64 games and reached the Western Conference Finals last season. Caruso is a two-time NBA champion and was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2023.
