Stephon Castle reveals he has been working hard to improve his perimeter shooting image
After the San Antonio Spurs' run to the 2026 NBA Finals, it was clear that they still had some issues. For individual players, they know they have some work to do with their games, including standout guard Stephon Castle. He might have had an impressive run, but he has been hard at work improving his perimeter shooting.
Throughout the postseason, he was quite inconsistent with his jump shot. Everyone knows this is not a particularly strong suit of his game, but his decision to work on it is a big deal ahead of the 2026-27 season. If he does improve considerably, he and Victor Wembanyama will be hard to defend.
Stephon Castle is ready to improve his perimeter shooting to help the Spurs
In just two seasons, Castle has established himself as one of the premier young guards in the league. He is one of the league's best defenders already, as he knows how to use his size, strength, and athleticism to overwhelm his matchup.
Unfortunately, Castle also struggles with his perimeter shooting on the offensive end. That does not mean that he is unwilling to take shots because he does put them up despite his deficiencies as a shooter. That is why he has been laser-focused on improving his shooting moving forward.

In his two NBA seasons, he has averaged 44.8% from the field and 30.5% from three. That is not a good number, but it seems he is willing to improve. He is an efficient player at the rim because he has the athleticism to finish well, but now he has to deliver with his jump shots as well.
"A lot of shooting, working on my base a lot. Just rhythm things, just sharpening things up," Castle said during a workout video where it clearly shows him working on his jump shot.
The pressure is on Castle to prove that this work has been productive. It is tough to have this kind of problem for a guard, but he is ready to keep working on proving himself. The Spurs need him to be much better than before, and with the trajectory of his development, the progress is promising.
