LOS ANGELES — While Victor Wembanyama gets a lot of the love from fans, especially now as the cover athlete for NBA 2K27, the San Antonio Spurs also have one of the best, up-and-coming two-way guards in the NBA in Stephon Castle.
With Castle and Wembanyama alongside one another, the Spurs have a bright future that also features Dylan Harper, who just finished his rookie season in the NBA, and De'Aaron Fox, and established and proven veteran in the league.
In the past, teams like the Golden State Warriors with Kevin Durant have been off-limits due to their high ratings and star-power. This year, the Philadelphia 76ers are looking awfully familiar, boasting four players with a 91 overall rating or higher.
But according to Stephon Castle's friends, the San Antonio Spurs are also off limits.
Castle recently tried to play as the Spurs against some friends in NBA 2K27, but they gave him a lot of grief, and sometimes don't even let him.
Castle, who spoke with ClutchPoints at NBA 2K27 Community Day, says his friends call it, “cheating.”
“I'll be playing my friends and they'll be telling me I can't get the Spurs,” Castle explained in disbelief. “They said we're cheating. I don't know [how that's cheating]. Hopefully I'll be able to get the Spurs this year if I let them get the Sixers or something.”

During the interview with Stephon Castle, the Spurs guard also said he used to play with them back in NBA 2K14, along with the Kevin Durant-led Oklahoma City Thunder and the LeBron James-led Miami Heat.
Stephon Castle: I thought the Spurs were really cheesy. I don't know what made me use them back then. Because, I mean, it's not like they had crazy just star athleticism, stuff like that. But, I mean, they were pretty good back then. I think the Thunder team was good before they gave up KD. And obviously the Heat were probably off limits when you play with somebody.”
In just his second season in the NBA, Castle averaged 16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field.
He was even better during his first ever playoff run, averaging 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 0.9 steals per game in 23 appearances while shooting 46 percent from the field and being one of the leaders in the Spurs' NBA Finals run.
After falling short against the New York Knicks, San Antonio will surely have revenge on their mind heading into the 2026-27 season.
