Lonzo Ball goes deep about how major injuries changed his relationship with basketball image
Throughout his basketball career, Lonzo Ball has struggled with injuries. He was a promising player when he was healthy, as he had a combination of playmaking and defense. Even with his shaky shooting form, he also improved as a shooter as his career progressed.
Unfortunately for Lonzo, it seems he is out of the league now. After having a chance with the Cleveland Cavaliers, it looks like he is not up to the level anymore. He probably still has a lot to give to basketball, but injuries essentially ruined his long-term career.
Lonzo Ball does a deep dive on how injuries changed his relationship with basketball
Ball suffered a knee injury in early 2022 while playing for the Chicago Bulls. It was a significant injury because it led to a lengthy saga with Ball and his knee. He experienced pain even during his rehabilitation, which affected his physical activity.
At the time of his injury, the Bulls were the best team in the Eastern Conference. While they were not seen as contenders back then, they did have a promising roster that could have made some noise in the Playoffs. Unfortunately, the injury to Ball ruined that, and both he and the Bulls have never truly recovered from that.

Since 2022, Ball has gone through all types of procedures, but he has never been fully healthy. He had an opportunity to come back and prove himself in Cleveland, but he had one of the worst campaigns possible during his 2025-26 season stint with the Cavs.
This has led to Ball looking back on what has happened during his career. It is unfortunate because the injuries truly ruined his career, and he is still holding out in the hope of coming back.
"I mean it definitely takes some joy away from it obviously, because you can’t do what you want to do. I think everybody just faces that at some point in their career eventually. You know, everybody, whether it’s age, age is going to get you," Ball said to Michael Porter Jr. on the Curious Mike podcast.
"I mean, unless you're LeBron other than him, like, you know, something’s going to happen where you start declining. You know what I’m saying? And it’s always going to be like, damn, I wish I could do this. I wish I could do that."
Considering Ball was such a highly touted prospect coming out of high school and college, it is a shame that he is not getting to play out his career. He is only 28, so he has a lot to give the NBA, but it seems his body has failed him, and it will take a lot of work for him to make a return.
