The Pittsburgh Steelers released an updated depth chart ahead of Thursday’s preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills.
On Sunday, three days after the conclusion of the preseason, all teams are required to cut the roster down from 90 to 53. This is the final depth chart published before those cutdowns take place.
There aren’t any significant changes, but they did add (and remove) the various roster moves since last week’s depth chart was shared. Those changes include the addition of RB Alex Tecza on the same tier alongside Travis Homer and fellow Navy Midshipmen Eli Heidenreich. Tecza came in for a rookie tryout earlier in the offseason, and is now officially on his first NFL roster with his hometown team alongside his lifelong teammate and friend.
On defense, the Steelers tacked on CB Jaylon Guilbeau and removed S Israel Mukuamu after the latter suffered an injury and reached a settlement with the team. Guilbeau is a rookie undrafted free agent out of the University of Texas. He initially signed with the Carolina Panthers, but was waived at the start of camp with a non-football injury designation. He should have an opportunity late in the preseason finale to put some play on tape, but his odds of even making the practice squad are long this late in the process.
K Laith Marjan was also removed from the depth chart after getting waived over the weekend. He missed a 44-yard field goal on Friday and was waived two days later. That leaves Chris Boswell as the only kicker on the roster, which was going to happen next Sunday on cutdown day regardless. None of Pittsburgh’s specialists have competition on the roster now.
The next depth chart that’s posted will be ahead of the Steelers’ Week 1 game in two weeks. It’ll be the first version with just 53 players, and will likely include a more significant shakeup of the pecking order at each position.
