NBA free agent Lonzo Ball recorded an episode of the ‘Curious Mike’ podcast with Michael Porter Jr., where he spoke about his brother, LaMelo Ball, and his curiously bizarre spending habits.
The Nets forward asked the former Bulls guard about who in his family spends the most money.
“The one who has the most, Melo. He got 10 cars. He got alien inventions going on in apartments and s–t. That was one of his apartments in Charlotte. His fun house, I like to call it. I don’t know how he lived like that,” Lonzo Ball said.
“His cars and s–t, I’ve never… He’ll buy a million-dollar car and then just immediately f–k it up. I never understood. I don’t understand. I f–k with cars heavy, so it’s like, you just bought that, and then you ripped it up. You could have just got a beater and did that.”
“He actually doesn’t get in accidents, but he has a lot of situations on the road. He did get into an accident recently. Well, not recently; that s–t went viral. He does need to chill out. He got a driver now though,” revealed Lonzo.

Later in the podcast, Porter Jr. asked Lonzo Ball a different version of the same question. He asked who he knew would likely spend $100,000 in a single day.
“That’s a trick [question]. That depends on the day, but I would go with Melo. Yeah, but he’s like Melo spends a lot of money, but he’s frugal as f–k. Like if we go to dinner, like he’s not picking that s–t up for real. Yeah. No, no, no. He’s not doing none of that s–t.”
“If we go, like, say we go work out or some s–t, we get smoothies or something after. He’ll be with Ant. He makes Ant pay. Yeah. Like, ‘man, you got me right?’ Then he takes his s–t and walks out.”
“Like Melo’s on that s–t. Like he’s still a little runt, he’s frugal as f–k, but he does have a lot of nice s–t,” Lonzo Ball added.
LaMelo Ball is entering the third season of his five-year, $204 million extension. Even though his guaranteed career earnings add up to $239 million, he has received only $103.7 million of that amount. Ball is set to earn $41.25 million in the 2026-27 season with the Timberwolves.
But beyond his career earnings, Ball also noted in 2020 that he wasn’t planning to spend any of the NBA money he gets and wanted to live off endorsement deals. Of course, that must have changed over the years, seeing how Lonzo describes LaMelo Ball’s spending habits.
However, it is possible that LaMelo Ball is still living off of only endorsement money since he secured a 10-year, $100 million deal from Puma for his signature shoe, which is more than enough to support his lifestyle so far.
It is also a bit hilarious to note that, without even playing a single game yet, Anthony Edwards is already comfortable enough with him to let him buy his food.
I would certainly understand and praise him if LaMelo Ball were modest; then his humble, tight-pocketed lifestyle would make sense. But if he spends lavishly on his own desires, like cars, he should be able to spare some money to treat his loved ones once in a while.
