BBC pundit Alan Shearer believes Arsenal will run away with the Premier League title if they sign Julian Alvarez before the transfer window closes.
The Gunners are very interested in bringing the former Manchester City player back to England, and speaking about the situation, Shearer said:
“We’ve heard of a lot of pushing from Barcelona and reluctance from Atletico. It seems like their thinking might be, ‘if we have to sell, we’re not selling to you [Barcelona]’.”
“There’s just maybe a small opportunity or a small window there for Arsenal to nab him, you would think. And if they do, it’s done by the way [the Premier League title race].”
What are the chances of Alvarez moving to the Emirates?
At the moment, the probability isn’t particularly high as the player has stubbornly maintained his stance that he only wants to join Barcelona.
Some trusted sources, including the BBC‘s Sami Mokbel, claim that Alvarez has begun to come around to the idea of moving to another team, but the Gunners have not yet been given enough encouragement to make a formal bid.

How much would Arsenal have to pay for the striker?
The Athletic report that Atletico have communicated to the Gunners that Alvarez’s asking price is €150m (£128.4m), which is a figure that would not only break Arsenal’s transfer record, but also the British record too. Some suggest that the valuation could come down, but even so, it would be a considerable outlay.
Gabriel Martinelli‘s sale is likely to be crucial to raising the required funds for such a statement signing. The Brazilian is believed to be closing in on a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in a deal worth €60m (£51.3m), including add-ons.
