An atmosphere of conflict at Arsenal for the fate of Myles Lewis-Skelly
As reported by TEAMtalk, Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick and manager Mikel Arteta have released contradicting statements about Myles Lewis-Skelly. The Arsenal youngster has played brilliant football over the two seasons and has become a regular starter. He starts mostly as a left back but Arteta has tested him as a deep lying midfielder as well.
In the 2025-26 season, in the UCL final against PSG, the 19-year-old started the match. He was decent in that game. But after becoming a key figure at such a young age, Arsenal held discussions for Myles Lewis-Skelly with their rivals, Man United and Chelsea in this transfer window. These discussions occurred after the Gunners signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle for £75m.
The Hale End academy graduate also featured in the Community Shield final against Man City. His side won the shield by a scoreline of 3-0. But the Spanish tactician did not outrightly reject the idea of his departure this summer. He accepted that there were rumours in the market. Arteta said, “I’m not going to talk about speculation. If there is speculation about our players, it’s a good sign. That means our players attract attention and are doing a good job.”
However, as reported by BBC, Garlick has given a clue that a potential exit is on the cards for Lewis-Skelly. He said, “We’re not actively looking at selling those homegrown players, but if the right opportunity came up and it was right for them and right for the club, then we’d obviously consider that.”

Mikel Arteta is convinced that Lewis-Skelly will stay
Mikel Arteta considers Lewis-Skelly as a vital figure in his setup. The 2025-26 season Premier League winning manager believes that he will wear the Arsenal colours after the end of the summer transfer window. On Friday, the Gunners started their 2026-27 Premier League campaign with a victory against Coventry City. Myles Lewis-Skelly started the game and produced a strong performance.
Before the match Arteta was asked about the 19-year-old’s future. He replied that he will 100% stay at the club. He added, “The players that have been raised in our system and they feel the love and the connection with the club bring something else. We need to look after them in a really special way. When we can, we want to protect those assets as much as possible.”
Wayne Rooney has urged INEOS to act on this situation
The Red Devils’ former player Wayne Rooney has asked INEOS to go and bid for Myles Lewis-Skelly from Arsenal. The youngster could be available for just £45m. The former striker does not trust Luke Shaw in that position.
Rooney said on the Stick To United podcast that Luke Shaw cannot be a solution in the upcoming full campaign. He will be unable to perform consistently the whole campaign. He has urged the Man United board to look at Myles Lewis-Skelly who they can get at such a low price. The youngster who can operate both the defense and the midfield, will achieve great things in his career.
