Chelsea have unveiled their new Carnival Collection for the 2026-27 season, delivering a bold range of retro-inspired clothing that takes the club’s famous colours in a completely different direction.
The collection centres around a distinctive striped design combining red, blue and black, creating one of Chelsea’s more unusual lifestyle looks of recent years. Rather than following the appearance of a conventional Chelsea football shirt, the range embraces a deliberately nostalgic aesthetic with strong influences from classic football training wear.
Chelsea Carnival Shirt 2026-27
The standout piece is the Chelsea 2026-27 Carnival shirt, which features horizontal stripes running across virtually the entire design.
Black and royal blue dominate the upper section of the shirt before increasingly prominent red stripes appear towards the bottom. The sleeves reverse the emphasis, using a vibrant red base with contrasting black horizontal lines.
A traditional black fold-over collar and V-neck complete the retro appearance, while orange piping around the raglan-style shoulder panels adds another splash of colour.
Perhaps the most interesting detail is the Chelsea branding.
Instead of the club’s familiar modern crest, the shirt carries a minimalist CFC emblem incorporating the Chelsea lion on the chest. Its relatively small size gives the shirt an understated vintage feel despite the incredibly colourful surrounding pattern.
There is also additional Chelsea-related artwork positioned beneath the collar on the back of the shirt.
A Very Different Look for Chelsea
Chelsea will forever be associated with royal blue, but the Carnival Collection demonstrates how effectively the club’s colours can be reinterpreted when creating clothing away from the traditional home, away and third-kit format.
The transition between blue, black and red is particularly eye-catching. Thin lines gradually build across the body before developing into increasingly dominant red sections towards the waist.
It gives the design a sense of movement that becomes much more apparent when viewed from a distance.
The combination also has a distinctly 1990s football shirt feel, helped enormously by the collar, loose horizontal graphics and simplified Chelsea badge. It is the type of design that would not have looked out of place among some of the more adventurous football shirts and training tops produced three decades ago.
Chelsea Carnival Jacket
Chelsea have carried the same design across to a matching Carnival jacket.
The full-zip jacket uses the blue, black and red striped pattern across the front, back and sleeves, accompanied by contrasting black side panels. A high black collar and elasticated cuffs and hem give it the appearance of a classic football tracksuit top.
The retro CFC lion emblem once again appears on the chest.
Alongside the shirt and jacket, the collection also includes a considerably more understated black Chelsea T-shirt. This features the same CFC lion branding on the chest with contrasting red/orange piping following the seams around the shoulders and down the sides.
It provides a much simpler alternative for supporters who like the Carnival branding but perhaps aren’t quite ready for the full striped design.
Chelsea Embrace Retro Football Fashion
Football fashion has increasingly moved beyond replica match shirts, and Chelsea’s Carnival Collection fits perfectly into that trend.
Rather than simply producing another range of standard club-branded leisurewear, Chelsea have created something that feels deliberately influenced by the colourful football clothing of the late 1980s and 1990s.
The unusual colour combination, retro collar and simplified crest give the Chelsea Carnival shirt 2026-27 plenty of character, while the matching jacket arguably pushes the throwback aesthetic even further.
It certainly won’t be mistaken for a conventional Chelsea shirt – and that’s precisely what makes this collection interesting.
