Monumental Sports & Entertainment and DAZN on Tuesday announced a multi-year partnership to stream Wizards, Capitals, Mystics and Go-Go games on DAZN.
The deal, which begins later this summer, allows viewers to watch every Wizards game live or on demand using the Monumental+ app as a subscription now available through DAZN. The offer includes “expanded pregame and postgame coverage” and “behind-the-scenes access,” among other benefits.
Access to Monumental+ through the Monumental Sports app or website costs $19.99 per month or $179.99 per year. It’s unclear whether the subscription price remains the same if purchased through DAZN.
This partnership comes roughly 11 months after Monumental Sports Network was dropped by YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV following a heated dispute over contract renewal negotiations.
Thousands of Wizards, Capitals and Mystics fans lost access to their team’s games on YouTube TV — a main source of live sports coverage for many — which made purchasing a Monumental+ subscription the only non-blackout-restricted way to watch Wizards, Capitals and Mystics games in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area.
“Monumental Sports Network has incredible reach across the DMV and we continue to pursue opportunities that engage fans wherever and however they choose to watch,” Zach Leonsis, President of Media and New Enterprises for Monumental Sports & Entertainment, said via a press release. “DAZN has built a highly innovative global sports entertainment platform and offers an extensive portfolio of premium sports content. We’re pleased to give fans another way to watch our live games and other programming.”
