Ethan Nwaneri: Liverpool make shock decision on Arsenal star

Arsenal

Liverpool have made a final decision against a move for Ethan Nwaneri, as per latest transfer news. The Reds have decided against going for the Arsenal youngster. The Merseyside club are working to sort out their right wing. Arsenal have shown interest in cashing in their academy prodigies.

Liverpool will not move for Ethan Nwaneri

As reported by TEAMtalk, Liverpool are not preparing themselves to sign Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal. They do have an interest for the Hale End academy starlet. But that does not push them to strike a deal with Arsenal. Last week, reports said that Liverpool and Arsenal have held serious discussions for Nwaneri. The Reds were actively driving the negotiations and the Gunners were looking forward to sell him.

Recently, Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick was asked about the possibilities of selling the academy graduates for pure profit. He replied that the London club is in no hurry to offload them but may capitalize on perfect opportunities. Liverpool fan page Anfield Sector wrote on X that there is no signal from the Merseyside club to complete the signing. The post says, “There is admiration for his abilities as a footballer but no desire to complete a transfer currently as things stand.”

Fabrizio Romano has recently claimed that some English clubs will approach Arsenal for Nwaneri. But Liverpool are not the Premier League side enquiring for the 19-year-old. Chelsea and Fulham have been linked with the exciting young talent. Fulham have already secured the signings of two youngsters from Real Madrid. Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios have joined Alvaro Arbeloa’s side from Spain. On the other hand, the Blues are trying to create some space in their inflated squad.

What are Arsenal planning to do with their young talents?

As reported by BBC, Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick was asked about the plans for the future of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri. Garlick said, “There’s been a lot of speculation around players. I can’t stop other clubs being interested. Ethan has had a great pre-season as well and I think it’s just a case of looking at what opportunities there are that will help both of those in terms of their career moving forward.”

He continued, “We are not actively looking at selling those homegrown players but if the right opportunity came up, right for them and the club, we’d obviously consider that.” In 2025-26 season, the 19-year-old moved to Marseille on loan in January and that was his first taste of football outside England. However, Arsenal value Nwaneri at around £35m- £50m. The Gunners are also planning to include a buy back clause in any potential deal. Borussia Dortmund are looking at options in the market for a winger. The German side have also shortlisted the Arsenal starlet.

Liverpool plans for a new right winger

The main objective for Liverpool in this transfer window is to find a like-for-like replacement of Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has joined Trabzonspor for free. The Reds are linked with two wingers from PSG.

Bradley Barcola is on the verge of joining the Merseyside club. The English side is working hard to agree a deal with the Ligue 1 side. Ibrahim Mbaye is another winger who is involved in the discussions. But Liverpool have refused to pay £171m for both the wingers.
