After being called out for staying put in the offseason, the Golden State Warriors made an under-the-radar move on Monday by signing a promising guard.
The Warriors added more depth in the backcourt after acquiring Brandon Williams on a short-term deal. Williams spent the last three years with the Dallas Mavericks.
ESPN's Shams Charania revealed the savvy move by Golden State.
“Free agent guard Brandon Williams has agreed to a one-year, $2.6 million deal to sign with the Golden State Warriors, agents Derek Lafayette and Curtis Lawrence told ESPN. Williams averaged 13 points, 3.9 assists, and 22.2 minutes per night across 66 games for Dallas last season,” wrote Charania on X.
The 26-year-old Williams had a breakout campaign last season, displaying his speed and athleticism. His ability to go downhill and create plays off the dribble should help the Warriors, especially with their aging core.

ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel noted that Golden State had been eyeing Williams for several weeks.
“As reported on ClutchPoints in July, the Warriors held strong interest in free agent guard Brandon Williams. Now, they got a deal done for him to round out the back end of their bench,” said Siegel on X.
Williams will likely come off the bench, joining De'Anthony Melton, Moses Moody, Gary Payton II, LJ Cryer, and Will Richard in the backcourt rotation in the second unit.
Williams, who was undrafted in 2021, took advantage of the opportunities given to him in Dallas last season, with Kyrie Irving out with an ACL injury. While he was erratic at times, he showed he can contribute on both ends of the floor.
