Nearly two months into free agency, the Warriors are finally signing a veteran who was not on their roster last season.
Point guard Brandon Williams is set to join the team on a one-year, $2.6 million deal, according to ESPN. The team has not yet announced the deal.
He had the best scoring output of his career last year, averaging 13.0 points in 22.2 minutes for the Dallas Mavericks. He played in 66 games with 15 starts, and a similar bench role could give Golden State some second-unit scoring.
Each of the last three seasons in Dallas has seen an increase in minutes, points and assists for Williams, who had 3.9 assists per game last season.
Williams, 26, spent the last three seasons in Dallas after playing his rookie year for the Portland Trail Blazers in 2021-22 and seeing no NBA action the following year. He will fill the 14th spot on the Warriors’ roster, leaving them one more slot to fill. According to Spotrac, they have roughly another $2.6 million to go before they hit the second apron of the salary cap.
Undrafted in 2021 out of Arizona, Williams will fill in minutes behind Steph Curry and De’Anthony Melton, who rejoined the team on a two-year, $11 million deal in July.
The Warriors also brought back guard Gary Payton II, forward Draymond Green and centers Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford and Charles Bassey as free agents from last season’s team.
