Newcastle United have struck an agreement for Nico Gonzalez after getting the green light from Manchester City.
The Magpies have had staff in the North-West awaiting the nod to sign the ex-Porto man in the last 24 hours and waited overnight to get the Spanish ace transported to the region.
Gonzalez trained with Man City yesterday but said goodbye to his team-mates ahead of his £50m move to St James' Park where he will be deemed as Bruno Guimaraes' replacement.
However, Gonzalez will not be the end of the arrivals with Newcastle insiders insisting to Chronicle Live that the Magpies remain "active" and "aren't done".
A forward and left-back cover seems the most likely to follow next with Matthias Jaissle getting his wish for more recruits and by the end of the window, the German coach should have had four additions of his own with Amar Dedic and Gonzalez deemed key signings.
When asked if there would be more trading, Jaissle, speaking after the draw with Liverpool, said: "Yes. Today the lads were doing amazing. It’s a young squad, unbelievable, but we have some needs. We know that internally, and we keep that also internally.
And when asked how many players he will need to complete the make-up of his squad, he said: “You can count it on one hand, I would say.
Up to £100m could be spent by Newcastle in the closing stages of the window as they look to turn the page on summer sales.
The Magpies sold Bruno, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon but now know they need quality and experience in the squad going into what will be a challenging campaign.
Newcastle will face Tonali at the weekend after his £100m move to Tottenham Hotspur and will hope that the Gonzalez deal will give them a fresh new look in the engine room.
