Calvin Ramsay has revealed he was eager to head back to Scotland following his departure from Liverpool on loan, in a move that effectively draws the curtain on his time at the club.
The 23-year-old has penned a deal with St. Mirren for the 2026/27 season, pending international clearance. With the Scotland international's contract at Anfield expiring next summer, he will leave on a free transfer, having already been informed that a new deal will not be forthcoming from Liverpool.
Faced with an uncertain long-term future, Ramsay, who has made just four appearances for Liverpool since joining the club in 2022, has acknowledged his desire to return to familiar territory as he seeks to reignite his career away from Merseyside.
"I feel really good, really excited," he told the club. "I've been in and trained and met all the boys, so yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
"I know the league, and I wanted to come back up here and try and show what I can do and rebuild myself again. I feel like it's a good place to come. I want to try and perform, work as hard as I can and see where that takes me.
"It's a really tough place to come for opposition teams, and I think the pitch is really good as well from when I played here. It's a good setup, it's a good club, and I'm just excited to get going.

"I spoke to the manager a couple of times before I came up, and he got his plan across and what he wanted to do.
"It's probably a different St. Mirren compared to the last few years. That'll suit me.
"I'm comfortable on the ball, I'm composed, I like to get on it and try and create things and make things happen."
Ramsay joined Liverpool from Aberdeen in June 2022, yet his time at Anfield was blighted by persistent injuries and ill-fated loan spells.
The full-back managed a mere four appearances across his four-year stint with the Reds, while accumulating just 26 outings in total during temporary switches to Preston, Bolton, Wigan and Kilmarnock throughout the 2023/24 and 2024/25 campaigns.
He remained on Merseyside for the 2025/26 season, earning a place in the matchday squad on 20 occasions under Arne Slot.
Nevertheless, he featured just twice, with his selection largely attributable to the club's mounting defensive injury concerns.
Ramsay will now be seeking to revive his career back in Scotland, and is free to open discussions with prospective clubs regarding his next destination from January.
