The New York Knicks are looking to repeat as NBA champions. At the same time, Josh Hart is eligible for a new contract extension.
He became eligible for a four-year, $132 million deal on Aug. 10. However, reports say he will receive a smaller deal worth up to $62 million over three years.
But no matter what, Hart intends to stay in the Big Apple for the remainder of his career, per
Caroline Fenton of Yahoo Sports.
“I've always said NY is a home for me and has given me some of the best years of my career,” Hart said.
“Of course I want to stay here and retire here.”

In 2023, Hart was traded to the Knicks via the Portland Trail Blazers. Since then, he has become a secondary playmaking force along with being a terrific rebounder and defender. All the while being a focal point in a tight-knit core that includes Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and Mikal Bridges.
Along the way, New York made significant inroads in the postseason.
He, Brunson, and Bridges played at Villanova and won a national championship in 2016.
All three hold the distinct honor of winning both an NCAA and NBA title as part of the same team.
Hart's best season was 2024-25, when he averaged 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. Last season, he averaged 12.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. In the playoffs, Hart averaged 10.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.
He achieved a career-high 26 points and 7 assists in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Knicks begin the preseason on Oct. 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers.
