Popular sports podcaster Bill Simmons got a hilarious idea from a listener about a unique secret weapon the Cleveland Cavaliers could deploy against LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers next season.
This has been an eventful offseason for both the 76ers and Cavaliers. Without a doubt, Philadelphia was the biggest winner of the summer, as they not only made a stunning blockbuster trade for five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown, but also won the free-agent chase for the 22-time All-Star. However, the Cavs were active as well.
They made a run at James and failed. But in response, they agreed to a pair of trades that opened up cap space to acquire talented young two-way talent, Peyton Watson. Then they finally inked future Hall of Famer James Harden to a new multi-year deal.
The pair of teams that were ousted by the champion New York Knicks in the playoffs are primed to be a force in a stacked Eastern Conference next season. And they could end up facing off in the 2027 postseason. If they do, Simmons and his podcast co-host, Joe House, have an interesting idea for the Cavs to add a secret weapon against James and the Sixers.

On a new edition of his The Ringer podcast, a listener asked, “Why couldn’t an East contender trade for Bronny [James] for the sole purpose of guarding LeBron during key moments in a playoff series? No way he’s looking to embarrass his son, right?”
The podcast host loved the idea and admitted he would have a tough time himself making his son look bad in front of 20,000 fans and a national audience. House then suggested the Cavaliers would be a perfect fit for such a wild idea. This led Simmons to expand on the idea.
Simmons then hilariously added that Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson should tell James to let his father score once, then break down in front of him so it pulls at his dear old dad’s heartstrings.
At the very least, the idea of the younger James playing in Cleveland would be fascinating. And going up against his father is something fans have not seen yet, and are curious whether the NBA icon would destroy his own son on the court, because he absolutely could.
