A new [Minnesota Vikings](https://kstp.com/minnesota-vikings/) uniform will be in rotation this year as the team unveiled their Rivalries uniform for a Dec. 20 home game against the Detroit Lions.
The Vikings said the look is meant to reflect “the embodiment of the North” and draws from themes of resilience, unity and readiness.
According to team officials, the design was inspired by ancient Viking warriors, who wore their finest regalia for major battles and the updated uniform is meant to be “worthy of an NFC North rivalry.”
The uniform’s color palette includes deep purple, pale ivory and metallic gold.
On the helmet, “SKOL” is spelled out in runic characters that were used during the Viking Age.
According to the Vikings, the pointed center helmet detail is meant to resemble the nose guard on historical Viking helmets.
Similar to the team’s famous Gjallarhorn, a Nordic knot pattern appears throughout the uniform.
