**Liverpool may have been linked with a summer move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye, but it looks as though their pursuit may be set to fail.**
The Reds have still only brought in Victor Munoz out wide since the end of last season, while Mohamed Salah has departed and Cody Gakpo is being backed to join the likes of Tottenham and Manchester City.
This is a pivotal week in the transfer market for Liverpool, as they look to strike deals for Bradley Barcola and Yankuba Minteh, but it doesn’t look like Mbaye will be coming in, having emerged as a rumoured option.
That’s according to a new report from [_L’Equipe_](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2026/psg-turned-down-liverpools-proposal-to-sign-ibrahim-mbaye-and-bradley-barcola-in-single-transfer-package/), which claims he has “moved away from the Reds” after PSG turned down a double approach for him and Barcola.
They add that “another unnamed club is now leading the race to sign the Senegalese international”, with the reigning European champions wanting to push him “towards joining the highest bidders.”

It is a shame to see Liverpool seemingly miss out on Mbaye this summer, considering he is a prodigious talent about whom Senegal coach [Pape Thiaw](https://www.givemesport.com/leeds-newcastle-aston-villa-want-psg-phenomenon-ibrahim-mbaye/) has said:
_“His potential for improvement is enormous. He’s already won many trophies. At 17, I was playing in the Gambardella Cup. He’s a phenomenon who’s at an excellent club with a very good coach. Tonight, he was good. But he needs to improve.”_
But now it needs to be a case of Liverpool moving on from Mbaye and focusing on Barcola and Minteh, with two new wingers essential before the transfer window closes next Monday.
It simply wouldn’t be good enough not to bring in a couple of additions in that area – you could argue that three are needed if Gakpo leaves – putting Andoni Iraola in a tough position before he has even got started at Anfield.
Sunday’s 2-2 draw away to Newcastle United highlighted the flaws within Liverpool’s squad, and if the right business isn’t conducted in the coming days, Reds supporters have every right to vent their anger towards FSG and sporting director Richard Hughes.
