Liverpool forward misses training ahead of Nottingham Forest game

Liverpool have turned their attention to their first home fixture of the 2026/27 Premier League season after Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle United.

Andoni Iraola will oversee his first competitive home game as Liverpool head coach on Saturday lunchtime when Nottingham Forest visit Anfield for a 12.30pm BST kick-off.

Iraola and his backroom staff took the squad through their latest training session at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday as preparations continued.

Federico Chiesa was again absent, with the Italian still sidelined after missing the trip to St James’ Park due to a fitness issue. His absence comes with just a week remaining in the transfer window, with Liverpool open to selling him for the right price.

Calvin Ramsay has left the club to join St Mirren on loan, while Lewis Koumas, James McConnell and Luke Chambers remain with the first team as decisions over potential loan moves are considered.

Alexander Isak trained after playing his first full game for Liverpool, while Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo, Alexis Mac Allister and Victor Munoz all came through the Newcastle game unscathed.

Liverpool could make changes against Nottingham Forest, with Iraola considering alterations in midfield and out wide.

Mac Allister could replace one of Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai or Ryan Gravenberch, while Munoz’s cameo at Newcastle could earn him a start ahead of Rio Ngumoha.

Araujo could also come into contention, although Jacquet remains viewed as Virgil van Dijk’s first-choice centre-back partner.

Iraola remains without Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni, although both are nearing returns from injury. Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike remain long-term absentees.

Stefan Bajcetic was also absent from training. The midfielder is reportedly close to joining Celta Vigo this summer, which would mark a return to his boyhood club and provide an ideal environment to restart his career after being hampered by injuries for the past few months.
