Bears reportedly in trade talks about sending away 24-year-old 2nd-round DT image
Heading into the 2026 NFL season, the Chicago Bears have a lot of optimism on the offensive side of the ball. The defense, however, is a big question mark.
Losing Coby Bryant for most of the 2026 NFL season, if not all of it, is a brutal loss. Add in the free-agent departures and lack of a true star pass-rushing upgrade, and there is a real reason to worry about this defense.
And yet, amid the questionable Bears' defense, NFL insider Jordan Schultz is reporting that the Bears are having trade talks about 24-year-old defensive tackle Gervon Dexter, their 2023 second-round pick.

"Sources: The Bears have had trade discussions involving DT Gervon Dexter, and there are multiple scenarios where a deal could get done, sending him to a new team," Schultz reports.
Dexter, the 2023 second-rounder taken No. 53 overall, is in the final year of his rookie deal and will hit free agency next offseason.
But at just 24 years old, he's the kind of player worth getting excited about. And yet, the Bears are reportedly in trade talks about moving him.
In 49 games during his NFL career, Dexter has three passes defended, four fumble recoveries, 13.5 sacks (including 6.0 last year), 115 tackles, and 10 tackles for loss with 42 quarterback hits.

Dexter is currently a projected starter at defensive tackle alongside Grady Jarrett. Behind them are Neville Gallimore, Kentavius Street, Jordan van den Berg, James Lynch, and Jayden Loving.
It's not the worst grouping of defensive tackles, but if the Bears were to trade Dexter, arguably their best DT on the roster, this DT group would look a lot worse.
This is a very interesting report from Schultz and is something Bears fans should be paying extra close attention to. If he's dealt, it would be a tough loss, regardless of the draft capital they could get back.
