After missing most of the past two weeks, Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater was back at practice on Tuesday. Prior to the day’s session, head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that Slater would practice in a limited fashion. Normally that means off to the side with a trainer or participating in individual drills only, but Tuesday’s reports suggest Slater is perfectly fine doing more in his first day back.
Per ESPN’s Kris Rhim, Slater was out there with the starting offensive line group in front of Justin Herbert during 11-on-11 drills. This is a huge deal given how much time he has missed while also being the very first practice back from that extended absence.
While there isn’t a ton of video coming out of Tuesday’s practice, this clip from Rhim at least shows us that Slater was giving it a full go during individual drills. Here he is exploding full speed out of his stance with offensive line Butch Barry doing his patented scream behind him.
This is a massive step forward for Slater and the Chargers, and an even bigger sigh of relief. After center Tyler Biadasz went down for the season, being able to see Slater back on the field with no limitations (seemingly) was desperately needed.
