The Chicago Bears hope for another strong campaign during the 2026 NFL season. Chicago is reportedly in talks to trade one of their defensive players, as the preseason winds down.
“Sources: The Bears have had trade discussions involving DT Gervon Dexter, and there are multiple scenarios where a deal could get done sending him to a new team,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted to X, formerly Twitter. “Dexter, still just 24 years old, started all 17 games last season and has 13.5 career sacks and 42 QB hits. He’s in the final year of his rookie contract.”
The insider isn't revealing at this time what the Bears would want in return for Dexter. During the 2025 season, the defensive tackle posted 44 total tackles.
If Dexter is traded, it would disrupt the chemistry of the team's defensive line. Chicago's coaches have praised that group this summer.
“I think our interior defensive line is better than the outside world is giving them credit for,” Bears head coach Ben Johnson said, per ChiCity Sports.
Dexter was expected to compete for a starting spot on the Bears roster this season. He has appeared in 49 regular season games over the last three seasons for Chicago. Dexter was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Dexter left the Bears practice early.
“Gervon Dexter went inside with a trainer as well,” Chicago Tribune reporter Brad Biggs posted to X.
Chicago reached the NFL Playoffs last season. The Bears defeated the Green Bay Packers in the postseason, before bowing in a game to the Los Angeles Rams.
Time will tell if Dexter is on the move soon.
