Brighton have rejected an improved £60m offer from Liverpool for winger Yankuba Minteh, as per the latest transfer news. The south coast club wants closer to £70m for the Gambia international, and talks between the two sides are continuing despite this second setback for the Merseyside outfit.
Yankuba Minteh Bid Rejected Again
As reported by BBC Sport, the Reds saw their new £60m offer turned down on Friday. That came just days after their first bid of £50m was also rejected. Brighton, however, want a fee closer to £70m before any sale goes through. Yankuba Minteh, who turned 22 this year, remains high on the club’s list of targets.
Head coach Andoni Iraola has been open about his thin options out wide. Before Sunday’s opener against Newcastle, he admitted his squad does not have enough natural wingers. Even so, he sounded confident that help would arrive soon. In his view, this gap still needs fixing before the window shuts.
Even so, neither club has walked away from the table, with discussions reportedly still moving forward behind closed doors. Reports suggest personal terms with the player are already largely agreed. So the transfer fee is now the only real hurdle left.

Injury Adds Complication for Yankuba Minteh Deal
A leg injury has kept Yankuba Minteh out of action since early August. He is not likely to return until October at the earliest. Even so, this setback has done little to cool Liverpool’s interest so far. Still, it does raise fair questions about squad planning this season. After all, paying close to £70m for an injured attacker is never an easy call.
Brighton signed him from Newcastle for £30m in 2024, and he has since built a strong record on the south coast. Across 73 appearances for Brighton, he has managed ten goals and nine assists, mostly from the right. Those numbers help explain why Brighton rate him so highly, injury or not. In short, his form has lived up to the billing around him.
Liverpool, though, are not relying on just one name. Paris Saint-Germain forward Ibrahim Mbaye has also emerged as another right-sided option for the club. Even so, fellow PSG player Bradley Barcola still sits above both of them as the top target out wide. For now, at least, he remains the priority signing.

What Comes Next in This Transfer Saga
Speaking to Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports this week, Iraola addressed the wider rebuild plan directly. He said signings will definitely follow, even if some deals only get done close to deadline day. What matters most, in his words, is where the squad stands by September 1. Until then, patience seems to be the priority for now.
These comments follow a summer of big change at Anfield. This year has seen Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate all depart the club. Meanwhile, Curtis Jones, too, is edging closer to a £30m Inter Milan switch. For now, both clubs seem willing to keep talking rather than walk away. Brighton have shown before that they can hold firm in Premier League deals, and this one looks no different.
