Washington Commanders: Suddenly Cut Will Harris 1
Washington Commanders defensive back Will Harris began the 2025 campaign as the starting safety. Unfortunately, Harris suffered a fractured fibula in Week 3 that sidelined him for eight games (Weeks 4-11). He returned in Week 13 and finished the season with 38 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble across nine starts.
With the Commanders signing Nick Cross and Jeremy Reaves and Quan Martin as the two leading candidates for the starting safety spot opposite Cross, Harris was more than likely going to be relegated to a backup spot.

On X, the Commanders announced they have released Will Harris. Harris struggled to stand out during training camp and the preseason and was essentially a third-string safety. As a result, the front office frees up $3.76 million in cap space while taking on $1 million in dead cap.

– Signed OLB Boogie Basham, S Joshuah Bledsoe and S Quindell Johnson
– Released S Will Harris and S Malik Spencer

In a corresponding move, the Commanders signed OLB Boogie Basham, S Joshuah Bledsoe, and S Quindell Johnson, while also releasing S Malik Spencer and placing OLB Drake Jackson on the season-ending injured reserve.
