While the Dallas Cowboys made notable additions to the defense to improve that side of the ball for the upcoming season, question marks remain around the No. 2 cornerback spot on the roster. The coaching staff revealed that the role is still very much up in the air after releasing the club's official depth chart ahead of Friday's preseason finale.
Every starting role appears set outside of one of the outside cornerback spots. The Cowboys have Shavon Revel listed as the starter. However, there is an “or” right next to his name before the team named Cobie Durant. The final preseason game against the New Orleans Saints could be what helps head coach Brian Schottenheimer decide who wins the starting job.

Revel is entering the second season of his career. The former third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft appeared in seven games last year, starting in five. In his limited role, Revel still managed to record 35 combined tackles (23 solo) and three pass deflections.
Meanwhile, Durant brings a bit more experience to the table, as he is going into his fifth year in the NFL. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Rams. The 2025-26 campaign was arguably his best year so far, as he recorded 40 combined tackles (30 solo), three interceptions (career-high), seven pass deflections, and one fumble recovery. He also returned one of his picks for a defensive touchdown.
With Revel and Durant battling it out, the rest of the secondary is set. The Cowboys are relying on DaRon Bland as the CB1 on the roster, while rookie Caleb Downs is expected to step in as the nickel. Jalen Thompson and Malik Hooker will serve as the starting safety's in Dallas.
