Matildas star earns place in PFA WSL Team of the Year after standout debut season with Chelsea

Matildas and Chelsea star Ellie Carpenter has been named in the PFA Women’s Super League Team of the Year.

Carpenter earned selection in the PFA WSL Team of the Year, as voted for by the players, following a standout debut season with English giants Chelsea.

The 26-year-old defender was the only Australian named in the team, while she was one of three Chelsea players included alongside Hannah Hampton and Lauren James.

Carpenter swapped European juggernaut Lyon for Chelsea last year and the Matildas star made 19 top-flight appearances last term, scoring twice and providing two assists.

She also helped Chelsea win the 2025-26 Women’s League Cup.

It is the latest honour for Carpenter, who has enjoyed an illustrious career up until this point.

Carpenter won a pair of UEFA Women’s Champions League titles at Lyon, to go with four Division 1 Feminine crowns, two Coupe de France trophies and a pair of Trophee des Championnes.

Also an A-League champion to go with Tournament of Nations and FFA Cup of Nations success with the Matildas, Carpenter was named the 2023 AFC Women’s International Player of the Year.

Carpenter earned selection in the 2023-24 UNFP Premiere Ligue Team of the Year.
