Raheem Sterling faces dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation charges after crashing his £270,000 Lamborghini on a motorway

Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possessing laughing gas after crashing his £270,000 Lamborghini on a motorway.
The England winger is set to appear at court over the incident on the M3 earlier this year. The 31-year-old ex-Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal star faces charges of dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen after his arrest in May.
Sterling, who is currently without a club, is due to appear before magistrates in Basingstoke on Tuesday, September 15. The forward, who has won 82 caps for England, was arrested after an incident near Minley Interchange after drivers dialled 999, having witnessed a black 4x4 vehicle allegedly weave across the M3 before 9am, reports the Express.

Sterling was initially released on bail pending further investigations. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman told The Sun: "A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.
"Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen."
"The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange, on May 28, 2026.
"No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. Mr Sterling is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on September 15."
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, was criminalised when reclassified as a class C drug in November 2023.
Sterling transferred to Dutch outfit Feyenoord earlier this year after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with Chelsea in January. He made eight appearances for the Eredivisie team before his contract ended in May.
Sterling has endured a challenging few years in football, struggling to replicate his trophy-winning success at Manchester City, following his £47.5million move to Chelsea.

He inked a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge in 2022 but was shipped out on loan to Arsenal in 2024/25, where he failed to persuade the Gunners to sign him on a permanent basis after scoring just once in 28 games.
His contract at Chelsea was terminated by mutual consent and he joined Feyenoord in February, playing eight times for the Rotterdam club.
The QPR academy graduate spent seven years at City, clinching four Premier League titles at the Etihad. He joined the club in 2015 after his meteoric rise at Liverpool, earning the Golden Boy award in 2014 when the Reds finished second behind City that season.
The once golden winger has scoring 20 goals for England in his 82 appearances, but his last cap came in 2022.
