Former Liverpool and Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation after a motorway crash

Raheem Sterling is set to appear in court on charges of dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation. The currently unattached footballer was involved in a collision on the M3 earlier this year and faces an additional charge of failing to provide a specimen following his arrest in May.
The former Liverpool and Manchester City winger is due to face magistrates in Basingstoke on 15 September. Sterling was arrested after the incident near Minley Interchange, following calls to 999 from motorists who witnessed a vehicle veering across the M3 before 9am.
Sterling was released on bail while further enquiries were carried out. No other vehicles were caught up in the incident, reports the Express. A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: "A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.
"Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen.
"The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange, on 28 May, 2026.
"No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. Mr Sterling is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates' court on 15 September."

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, was banned after being reclassified as a class C drug back in November 2023. Sterling joined Dutch outfit Feyenoord earlier this year, having mutually terminated his contract with Chelsea in January.
The seasoned campaigner made eight appearances for the Eredivisie club before his deal with the side came to an end in May.
The forward has endured a turbulent spell in football, having struggled to replicate the trophy-laden heights he reached at Manchester City following his switch to Chelsea.
Sterling penned a seven-year contract with the Blues in 2022 and subsequently headed out on loan to Arsenal in 2024/25, yet failed to persuade the Gunners to make the move permanent.
The QPR academy graduate spent seven years at City, claiming four Premier League titles during his tenure at the Etihad. He made the move to the club in 2015 after making a name for himself at Liverpool, having scooped the prestigious Golden Boy award in 2014.
