Man Utd still believe that Arsenal are open to selling Myles Lewis-Skelly, according to reports.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has said he is “100%” certain that the teenager will be staying at the Emirates.
However, English tabloid The Sun claim that Arteta only made those comments due to his belief that no team will match Lewis-Skelly’s asking price.
The Premier League champions would reportedly consider offers in excess of £50m for the player, giving United hope of sealing his signature before the transfer window shuts next week.
Would Lewis-Skelly be interested in the move?
The fact that several trusted sources have confirmed that both the Red Devils and Chelsea were offered the left-back/midfielder does indicate he is an attainable target.
Even so, there are still major doubts about Lewis-Skelly’s stance. Those close to the player have suggested that he is surprised by speculation linking him with a move away from North London, and it does appear it is his club who are pushing him to leave.
With that being the case, United would probably have to convince Lewis-Skelly, which may not be easy. Michael Carrick’s side may be better off looking for other options who are keener on a switch to Old Trafford.
Are Man Utd looking at alternatives?
Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle has made it clear in no uncertain terms that Lewis Hall will be staying at St James’ Park this summer, so that avenue appears to have been closed off.
Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde looks like he is the main alternative, but Man United may well face the same issue they are facing with Lewis-Skelly.
The Spaniard doesn’t want to leave Barca, despite the La Liga champions seemingly trying to force him out. He was not in the matchday squad for the 5-0 win over Elche at the weekend.
