Liverpool consider loan move for tri-national centre-back ahead of deadline day

Liverpool are considering sending promising tri-national centre-back Wellity Lucky out on loan before the close of the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

The Reds are expected to sanction several temporary departures in the coming week, with Lucky among the young players whose futures remain under consideration.

Born in Zaragoza, Spain, Lucky is eligible to represent Nigeria, Spain and England internationally.

The defender has earned caps for England at U15 and U16 level, although he remains eligible to switch allegiance to Nigeria as he has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Young Lions.

Liverpool believe regular first-team football could be beneficial for Lucky's development, particularly as he looks to make the step up from academy football to the senior game.

A loan move would give the 20-year-old valuable experience and an opportunity to play consistently at a competitive level.

Liverpool are expected to assess potential offers before deciding whether Lucky should leave temporarily or remain at Anfield for the first half of the season.

Lucky has received six call-ups to Liverpool's first team matchday squad and made his senior debut off the bench in a Carabao Cup clash against Crystal Palace in October 2025.
