Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are the stories you need to know as Giants get set to face off with the their stadium roommates, the New York Jets.
> Reese has already solidified himself as a critical piece of the Giants defense and continued to impress, adding another two total tackles during their preseason game Saturday. Reese sits second among defensive rookies for the best PFF grade through two preseason games (88.2), trailing just the Buccaneers’ Rueben Bain Jr. (88.8).

> “He hasn’t really missed a beat at all,” coach John Harbaugh said. “He learns very quickly, and he executes the defenses really well. And then when he doesn’t, he listens to every word of the coaching and applies it on the next opportunity. He’s making a lot of progress real fast.”

> Which means the end game for the New York Giants and their star wide receiver is almost upon us.
> John Harbaugh huddled a group of veterans after practice. They went over schedules, practice details and other team-related stuff. This is how John Harbaugh operates. He assembles a leadership group and consults with them on decisions. For the Giants that consists of quarterback Jaxson Dart, left tackle Andrew Thomas, outside linebacker Brian Burns, middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, safety Jevon Holland, punter Jordan Stout, backup quarterback Jameis Winston and tight end Chris Manhertz. They were voted as leaders by their teammates.

> “We’ve been doing it for a long time. It’s good,” Harbaugh said of the leadership group. “I do kind of try to emphasize to the team that everybody’s a leader and everybody has every opportunity to speak their mind. Talk to anybody. ... But sometimes it just kind of helps because guys don’t always want to do that.”
> **New York Giants receive: CB Joey Porter Jr. Pittsburgh Steelers receive: 2027 second- and sixth-round draft picks.** Adding Joey Porter Jr. into the mix would massively improve the secondary and give Big Blue the elite defensive back it needs to contend with the talented NFC East wideouts it is set to come up against in 2026.

> Rather than hope Adebo and Newsome return to form and Hood comes out of the gate strong, the Giants could instead trade for Porter and instantly solidify the cornerback position. Armed with a pair of Day 2 picks in the 2027 draft, the Giants could easily put a fair offer on the table for Porter’s services. It’s a bold move, but one New York shouldn’t hesitate to make if it truly believes it’s ready to return to Super Bowl contention under head coach John Harbaugh.

> This may seem like a disappointment in John Harbaugh’s first season, but there needs to be an understanding of the situation the Super Bowl champion coach inherited. The Giants have won seven games combined over the past two seasons. Second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart’s play is the variable that could swing the win total dramatically in either direction. But with some growing pains expected and a defense that features questions around a potentially dominant pass rush, seven wins feels right.
> Robinson was Nagy’s guy in Chicago. And said a major reason he had a ton of individual success in the context of Chicago’s offensive output is that Nagy does not tie his offense down to his scheme. He zeroes in on matchups in the game plan and gives his top players, especially the quarterback and his go-to weapons, flexibility to adjust on the fly.

> “We went to the playoffs two out of those first three years,” Robinson said. “And I had a lot of success in that as a receiver from just his ultimate trust in me building with Mitchell Trubisky and us kind of also having the keys being able to make in-game adjustments and double-moving routes on the fly. He gives the players — ‘say’ is the wrong word — but once you get to the line of scrimmage, you have a lot of ability as you practice through different checks, you can get to a lot of different things.”
