Chelsea have warned supporters they face potential bans if they continue singing a controversial chant that was heard during Monday night’s Premier League clash against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The Blues sealed a 3-2 win over their west London neighbours as Xabi Alonso got off to a winning start to his spell as head coach.
Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer all got on the scoresheet for Chelsea, who some believe could be dark horses for this season’s Premier League title due to the fact they have no European football to contend with.
However, Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher aren’t convinced Chelsea can win the title unless they replace their current first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who was arguably at fault for both of Fulham's goals Fulham.
Neville has suggested Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez could be a decent option for Alonso’s side if available before the transfer window closes on September 1.

However, Chelsea have taken action after a sectarian chant was heard from the away end at Fulham’s stadium.
Per the Daily Mail, a chorus of the ‘Flute for 50 pence song’ - which includes the line ‘F*** the Pope and the IRA’ - was clearly audible on Monday night.
The Mail’s chief sports writer Mike Keegan says “its airing would appear to reflect the long-standing relationship between elements of the club’s support and that of Glasgow Rangers.”
Chelsea officials are aware of the chant and the club have emailed fans who purchased tickets for the fixture, asking them to stop singing it.

A screenshot of the email in question has emerged on social media, via @AbsoluteChelsea on X (Twitter). The message to fans reads:
“Dear supporter,
“Thank you for your fantastic support during our opening Premier League fixture of the season against Fulham. The whole team and manager recognised your contribution to helping secure our first win of the campaign.
“The passion and backing from our fans are vital in achieving a successful season, and we encourage you to continue your vocal support for the team.
“Following the fixture, we have received multiple reports of sectarian chanting from a small portion of those in attendance at the match.
Following previous club fines and charges for chants of this nature, and to ensure that we create a welcoming matchday experience for all, we ask supporters to take collective responsibility and remain vigilant in helping us tackle discriminatory chanting.
“If you witness any discriminatory language or behaviour while supporting the team, please report it to us by notifying your nearest matchday steward whilst at the game or via our dedicated reporting form.
"Thank you for your ongoing support throughout this season.
“Chelsea FC.”
It’s understood the Football Association are also aware of the situation. Chelsea play their next two matches at Stamford Bridge (Luton Town in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, and Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday) before their next away match against reigning champions Arsenal on September 6.
