Monaco are searching for new central midfielders in case they lose Liverpool ‘target’ Lamine Camara before the transfer window closes.
The 22-year-old was linked with Liverpool before the conclusion of last season, with journalist David Lynch identifying the Senegal international as a player the club had watched closely.
Named alongside Adam Wharton and then-Lens player Mamadou Sangare (now at Brentford), Camara was deemed one of the emerging targets for the defensive midfield position.
Crystal Palace had an offer of around £35 million rejected for Camara earlier this month amid wider interest from Chelsea, Newcastle, Man United, Brighton and Nottingham Forest.
Sky Sports‘ Lyall Thomas now reports Monaco “are looking for new midfielders in case they lose” Camara, with Tottenham‘s Pape Matar Sarr on their radar.

The Ligue 1 side are reported to want in the region of €60 million (£51.37m) for the 22-year-old, who was recently namechecked by the Telegraph‘s Dominic King when it came to the club’s transfer stance.
When the club have been questioned about pursuing the likes of Camara, the message reiterated is that midfield is “not an area in which they are recruiting.”
Camara has, however, become a name increasingly mentioned as a signing that would bolster Liverpool’s midfield ranks without paying a substantial premium.
Although he is contracted until 2029, and sales elsewhere have generated revenue to relieve Monaco’s financial pressure to sell, the door could be opening for a late attempt to strike a deal.
Why Lamine Camara fits the double pivot profile
Camara, while small in stature (5’8″), is comfortable in physical battles and adept at bringing the ball forward and creating chances.
He is predominantly a No. 6, which Liverpool need, winning 6.6 duels per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 last season (top eight percent).

The Senegal international helps provide urgency and intensity in the middle of the pitch, which was witnessed during his outing at Anfield this pre-season.
He would offer the balance needed in Andoni Iraola‘s double pivot and could be an opportunistic signing if Monaco are preparing themselves for a future without him.
