For the longest time this summer, FC Barcelona have been focused on trying to acquire a new striker to lead their attack. Following the departures of both Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski, the Catalan giants are left in a conundrum of sorts regarding the striker position.
However, since the beginning of the summer transfer window, La Blaugrana have been heavily focused on Argentinian striker Julian Alvarez as their priority target. Unfortunately for them, Atletico Madrid seem to have no intention whatsoever of letting him go to Barcelona even though the player seems fully willing to join.
According to SPORT, however, if Barça is unable to sign Alvarez this summer, they will not be signing any alternative options either. The reason for this, as per the report, is that the club believes that the other options that are being looked at would not instantly improve the quality and overall competitiveness of the squad.
Unlike Alvarez, who would certainly arrive as an experienced striker with immense quality, other players are either too raw and inexperienced or simply out of reach. Players such as Joao Pedro or Harry Kane, for instance, remain unattainable at this point in time and Barça can no longer wait around for them.
For Alvarez, however, Barcelona seems to be willing to wait until the very end of the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants remain determined to sign him, but they will also not sign someone else in a state of panic simply to acquire a new striker.
Still, a crucial step that La Blaugrana will still need to take is to raise their offer for the player. Even though Atletico Madrid are still unwilling to negotiate with the Catalan giants, Alvarez reportedly remains fully committed to making something happen that changes that before the end of the transfer window.
As for right now, however, Barça remain focused on their upcoming game against Athletic Club in La Liga. Alvarez, on the other hand, reportedly missed Atletico Madrid’s recent training session as the transfer saga revolving around him continues to gain attention.
