Chelsea injury news ahead of Luton as Xabi Alonso provides double update

Xabi Alonso has provided the latest Chelsea team news ahead of the Blues' Carabao Cup clash against Luton Town on Thursday. The League One side make the trip to Stamford Bridge with the winner earning a place in the third round.
It will be the first competitive match Alonso has experienced at Chelsea's stadium since taking over in the summer and the Spaniard will want to keep the momentum going after the 3-2 win over Fulham on Monday night. Moises Caicedo and Marco Palestra were not involved in the Premier League opener after the duo suffered "a few setbacks".
Ahead of the clash against Luton on Thursday, Alonso confirmed both players will not be fit enough to feature against Jack Wilshere's men. He said: "Both not for tomorrow. Hopefully Moi can make it for the weekend. Maybe we need to check a little bit more with Marco."

Caicedo played in three pre-season friendlies for Chelsea, including his standout display against AC Milan where he scored and assisted in a 3-0 win. Palestra, who arrived from Atalanta this summer, had also featured three times and it remains to be seen if the duo will be fit for the Premier League clash against Brighton on Sunday.
Alonso also confirmed Cole Palmer was fine after the Englishman was taken off against Fulham in the second half. Elsewhere, Wesley Fofana is serving the last of his two-game suspension while Jordan Henderson and Emmanuel Emegha remain injured.
Enzo Fernandez, meanwhile, continues to train as normal amid speculation linking him with an exit. Manchester City are interested in the midfielder but the Blues want around £120million for the Argentine.
Asked if Fernandez will be involved against Luton, Alonso said: "Yes. We expect him to be involved. He's training really well and he will be involved."
On if he wants Fernandez to stay, Alonso added: "We want to have the best team possible. He has amazing quality and he has shown it."
