Savio, who was formerly known as Savinho, has been unveiled as a Tottenham Hotspur player for an initial £75m, rising to £85m, taking the club’s spending to £322m this transfer window. The winger has arrived in time from Manchester City to be eligible to make his debut for the North London club against Charlton Athletic in the second round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening.
Well, Savio is expected to be soon joined by Omar Marmoush from Manchester City. It’s expected that Spurs will complete an initial loan deal for Omar Marmoush, with the club then obliged to pay Man City £50m if certain conditions are met during the season.
The Egyptian international has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham, demonstrating his keenness to become a part of Roberto De Zerbi’s revolution in N17. De Zerbi views the 27-year-old’s signing as the next priority as he aims to bolster the offensive unit before the transfer window shuts.
John Wenham makes admission on Omar Marmoush’s possible wages at Tottenham
Marmoush is currently paid £295,000 a week at the Etihad Stadium. Matching those terms would require Spurs to smash their wage structure.
John Wenham, owner of the famous Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, believes Spurs may not have broken their wage structure and instead offered something else to convince him to sign. He thinks the key decision-makers in N17 would have offered the forward a special £5m bonus to reach an agreement on personal terms.
“This summer we’ve seen Tottenham break their wage records, we’ve seen, Micky van der Ven is on well over £200,000-a-week, Gallagher’s on £200,000-a-week, so you’d imagine it being that kind of ballpark,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“I know that there’s something about Marmoush being on £295,000-a-week at City, I personally don’t see Tottenham matching that.
“Maybe they’ll just give him a sort of £5million signing-on bonus or something, and his wages will be in line with the other top earners at the club.”
Tottenham’s change in wage approach this summer
After years of mediocrity and underpaying of talents, the Tottenham hierarchy have changed their wage policy this summer. Sandro Tonali became the first Spurs player to receive a deal worth £200,000 a week, when he joined from Newcastle United in July. Newly-appointed skipper Micky van de Ven will also earn in that bracket after the Dutchman recently penned a lucrative contract.
Marmoush is unlikely to get £295,000-a-week, but he will want to be counted among the highest earners at White Hart Lane. Ultimately, though, the Egypt star’s objective will be to get regular minutes, refine his game under De Zerbi and resurrect his career. Having played second fiddle to Erling Haaland at City, cementing a spot in the gaffer’s first XI and bringing consistency to his game should be his motto.
