The Chicago Bears were worried about Darnell Wright after he suffered an injury in practice ahead of their preseason finale this weekend. They've received some good news, and it looks like he'll be back on the practice field soon, according to ESPN's Courtney Cronin.
“The Bears have a light practice at 11 a.m. before they'll fly to Tennessee for a joint practice with the Titans on Thursday. I'm told that Darnell Wright is ‘fine' after leaving practice early yesterday with what looked like an elbow injury. We'll see if he's out there today,” Cronin wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Wright suffered the injury during red zone drills and had to be replaced by Theo Benedet. It's good news that he didn't suffer anything serious, and the battle for the left tackle position can continue.
Just recently, head coach Ben Johnson seemed uncertain about who would be at left tackle when the season starts against the Carolina Panthers, and he has a few weeks to make that decision.
“Ben Johnson said that the left tackle battle remains ongoing, calling it ‘a hot spot' for the team that still doesn't have answers yet among the 4 players that have been in the mix (Jones, Benedet, Amegadjie, Wills). Johnson: ‘I don’t know know that we’re 100% sold on who that guy is going to be in Carolina for us,'” Cronin wrote on X.
It would seem like Wright had the upper hand, and then he got injured, which left even more doubt in Johnson's mind. Now with Wright coming back soon, he should still have the lead, but it wouldn't be surprising if someone else jumped him.
Things could get interesting in the preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans, and that game could determine who wins the starting job for the position.
