State of Ohio State recruiting: Quarterback
With less than two weeks before Ohio State kicks off its season, we're taking a look at the state of the Buckeyes' quarterback recruiting.
With recruiting in a bit of a lull until senior evaluations are complete, we figured it would be fun to do a couple of position-based recruiting features on Ohio State titled the State of Ohio State recruiting over the next couple of days.
We probably will touch on most positions, but maybe not all of them (for example, still a lot of TBD out there on tight ends, but even still, we could probably take a shot at it).
We'll touch on where things currently sit in the 2027 class, pick out a couple targets to watch in 2028 and give you one name worth mentioning in the 2029 class.
On Monday, we delved into the offensive line. Tuesday, we're talking about quarterback recruiting, though 2027 and 2028 look pretty steady (but we have one name for 2029 that we'd peg as the early favorite).
Before we delve into each class, I figured it was worth sharing a quote from Ryan Day's press conference on Monday. Day was asked about how Ohio State navigates quarterback recruiting, given that senior film evaluations are important but often high school signal callers commit multiple cycles ahead of time. It seems prevalent to the Buckeyes given they left no stone unturned scouting 2027 quarterbacks this spring despite having a commitment in the fold, and recently landed one of the top signal callers in the 2028 recruiting class before he took a snap in his junior season.
"(A commitment in their senior year is) ideally what you'd like to have, but sometimes your hand gets forced a little bit in this world where guys are coming off the board, and you've got to make some decisions early on. But you continue to evaluate everything, and that's it. And we try to make sure that guys understand that part of it as well," Day said Tuesday.
"Like, because you're committed, you have to now hold the standard of being a Buckeye, which, for us, the good news is guys understand that, they embrace that, and they've certainly answered when it comes to that. So we continue to evaluate everything. We feel really good about where we are right now in recruiting. We think that it's strong. We've got really good guys, not just players, but as people, guys who understand what it means to be at Ohio State. So there's a lot of momentum there, especially in today's day and age with everything that's going on."
