Soundgarden are gearing up for a rare live performance at the Seattle Seahawks’ NFC West season home opener on September 9th, and will be celebrating this special occasion with guest vocals from The Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen.
The Seattle grunge heavyweights will provide the halftime entertainment for the match against the New England Patriots at Lumen Field.
While Momsen will handle the vocals, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready will join on guitar for the one-off show.
Though Momsen recently released her fifth studio album with The Pretty Reckless, she has also stood in as Soundgarden’s unofficial frontperson in the years following Chris Cornell’s tragic death in 2017.
In November last year, the vocalist honoured Cornell at the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, soaring through hits ‘Black Hole Sun’ and ‘Rusty Cage’.
At the ceremony, drummer Matt Cameron emotionally remarked, “I think Chris would have really enjoyed this moment of recognition, because he was always moving as an artist.” This was their latest live performance to date.
Before this, she appeared at the ‘I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell’ benefit concert in January 2019.
Also on September 9th, fans will be treated to a pregame Salute 250 Kickoff Concert featuring Luke Bryan, taking place three hours before kick-off.
It’s an exciting time for Soundgarden, who recently revealed that they are in the mixing stage of their final album, which will feature Cornell’s vocals.
Last month, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil gave his own update on the album’s estimated release date, admitting that the band is “really aiming for next year” to bring the project into the world.
He explained, “We have to book studio time here and there, and we have to have the availability of the producer and the engineer and the band members.”
As for Momsen, Far Out gave the latest The Pretty Reckless album, Dear God, a three-and-a-half-star review, observing, “The Pretty Reckless face the dark days with admirable honesty, breakneck riffs, and unmistakable power-house vocals.”
