Sunderland have tabled a bid to sign Manchester City winger Jack Grealish on loan for the season, according to David Ornstein.
The Black Cats have had a busy summer window so far, bringing in Dayann Methalie, Jules Ahoka, and Thomas Meunier to strengthen the squad, but started their campaign with a disappointing defeat to Premier League new boys Ipswich Town on the opening day.
But after being heavily linked with a return to Everton this summer, following a successful loan spell at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last season, Sunderland have now edged ahead in the race for the 30-year-old Man City star.
According to The Athletic, Sunderland have tabled an offer to sign Grealish on loan for the 2026/27 season which would see Man City cover part of his salary. The offer also would contain the option to make the move permanent next summer, when Grealish's current contract at the Etihad Stadium is due to expire.
Grealish was in the matchday squad for Enzo Maresca's first game in charge in the Community Shield and Premier League this season, coming on as a substitute in the defeat to Arsenal in Cardiff, and the 2-1 win over Bournemouth this past weekend.
The winger enjoyed a fine season at Everton last season, scoring two goals and registering six assists in 20 appearances for the club before suffering a season-ending foot injury in January.
Grealish has been heavily linked with a return to Merseyside, but a deal hasn't materialised and now Sunderland have stepped up their interest to bring him to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland are also pushing to get a deal over the line for Brazilian winger Igor Paixao before the September 1st deadline
