Liverpool have had a £50 million bid rejected by Crystal Palace for Ismaila Sarr today.

As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have set their sights on the Palace talisman as they continue frantically scouring the market for a suitable attacking signing before the deadline.

They had been in talks over a potential deal for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Yankuba Minteh this week, but have had to end their pursuit due to the player being valued at £80 million.

Brighton are under no pressure to facilitate a sale to raise funds, given they’ve just received £65m upfront from Manchester United for Carlos Baleba.

Now, it remains to be seen if the Merseyside outfit will return with an improved proposal for Sarr, who’s also been linked with United on numerous occasions this summer.

INEOS had identified Sarr as a suitable option to try and bring in earlier in the window when it looked as though Marcus Rashford would definitely be departing, so opted against materialising their interest when Barcelona bypassed Rashford’s buy option.

United are still in the market for an attacker, and are more likely to ramp up their efforts if Joshua Zirkzee leaves.

However, the Eagles star is considered off-limits as far as the Palace board are concerned, as they have already rebuffed two offers from Galatasaray.

Sarr himself is said to be keen on a move elsewhere, but time is running out for Palace to find a replacement they deem acceptable.

Alas, it’s highly unlikely United get involved at this stage, although it will be interesting to see whom they may turn their attention to should Zirkzee bid farewell.
