The Green Bay Packers are going into the 2026 season having entered the playoffs as the seven seed three years in a row. After proving they have a playoff caliber roster, the team is looking to take that next step this season. However, it would appear that the team may have to navigate a suspension to make that happen.

Packers Preparing For Suspension To Start The 2026 Season
According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
Brian Gutekunst said they’ve been preparing for scenario of Josh Jacobs being suspended, just to cover all their bases in case that happens. He’s confident in the RB room behind Jacobs but doesn’t rule out an additional move.
Said they’ll tackle that if/when something happens.
Despite Josh Jacobs’ potential suspension, the Green Bay Packers appear comfortable with their running back depth. Gutekunst spoke to reporters Wednesday, offering a confident assessment of the team’s backup options and contingency plans.
Jacobs was arrested for domestic abuse in May. Despite being released by police, Jacobs remains at risk of being suspended for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Despite that possibility, the Packers don’t appear to be changing their approach to running backs. Green Bay’s GM expressed confidence in the depth Green Bay has assembled behind Jacobs.
“I’m pretty confident we can sustain it,” Gutekunst said. “That doesn’t mean we wouldn’t do that, but yeah, we’ll deal with that when that comes. But we’ve obviously been prepared for that in case that happens. At the same time, I feel really good about the guys we got in that room, and I think we can survive that and kill it.”
